I also did a home test using EZ Gluten, on lot #41458400, which was a small tub of the Natural flavor and it came up positive for gluten. The test is sensitive down to 10ppm, but does not give the specific number.
Vega Kelly said:Hey everyone - I wanted to you fill you in on the gluten testing that Sequel does on Vega products. We regularly sample product against the FDA standard which is less than 20 ppm. From my understanding, at that level, those with a gluten allergy will not have a reaction. However it becomes a little grayer when you are talking about celiac. For this reason, the FDA (USA) and the CFIA (Canada) are currently reviewing the standard. To get ahead of the curve, we are having all of our products further tested to find out the exact ppm, not just under 20. Permalink Reply by Jasond on May 14, 2010 at 11:33am hi there .. jason, I was wondering how about the EZ gluten test kits .. i have celiac disease and have become very ill from products that advertise as being gluten free .. ie. 20 ppm... do you buy the kits on line and are they a one time use??
it is difficult for some to understand the significance of what they feel is such a small amount of gluten but for those of us with Celiac diease it is devastating .. once exposed it can take 6 weeks for my autoimmune response to settle down ... nausea, cramping, bloating, malabsorption, sweeling in the legs, depression, rapid heart rate , itch skin, temperature fluctatiosn, headaches .. all happen for me
I am plesed that Vega is attempting to become more sensitive to the presence of gluten!

Permalink Reply by dana on May 14, 2010 at 3:33pm Hi Dana,
I have a lot of nasty reactions as well. I've been off the WFHO for over a week now and I'm still not back to normal. I'm doing Colosan twice a day to get it all out of my digestive track.
I ordered Gluten EZ online. It's pretty cool. I ordered ten tests for about 140 delivered. Each test is only good once. It's a little too expensive to test everything I consume. For instance, if I were to test every bottle of Vega when I opened it, it would add $14 to the cost of each bottle, so it's only useful in confirming after a gluten reaction.
I really miss being able to take the WFHO. I would start each day off with a helping, and then take another after a workout. I finally got my morning PH into the zone. I feel at a complete loss, as well as a lot of anger that I've done so much damage to my body since the product changed about a month or so ago. I was convinced that it must be something else that was effecting me. the first few months it actually helped my digestion and I had blood tests done after a couple months taking the product and my antibodies were fine. Then things changed about a month and a half ago. I wish I had had the EZ GLuten before this week. Would have saved me a lot of pain.

Permalink Reply by Jasond on July 23, 2010 at 4:28am Hi Kelly,
Can you read my post & see if you think gluten is my issue? I have not been tested for celiac, but have found on my own that I feel better not having it, but I have never gotten so sick in my life from eating anything as I have w/ WFHO...I am really sad b/c the first 2 months I felt amazing, happy, & full of energy...Could Iron make me sick or do you feel it is the gluten?-My Post-----
Hi, I am a beginner user of Vega. The first 2 months were GREAT! I had a shake in the morning for breakfast (only 1 scoop & added fresh fruit, usually a banana or
cherries) I took my vitamins later in the day as usual & had no
problems. I felt wonderful for 2 months.
I quit using Vega for about 2 weeks (just not making the time in the morning) A week ago I decided to get back to it & made one for lunch...1 scoop. A few hours later I became very
ill, hot & chills. Soon I was throwing up EVERYTHING until I dry
heaved (sp?) Anyway, I did not want to think Vega was the reason so I
just took a week away from it & yesterday I had another for lunch (1
scoop) - a few hours later- same result-I was so sick. That was all I
had for lunch & Water (Smart Water) I don't understand this at all. I might have a gluten sensitivity, but gluten never makes me sick likes that- usually it makes my joints hurt, stomach bloat but not like I have food poisoning, the way this feels.
So here is what I do know. -- I can NOT take vitamins high in iron, during both pregnancies I was unable to take prenatal due to the high iron, the sickness was very similar to what I feel after WFHO but not to the same degree.
So here is my theory & (I welcome all input)---- I love spinach (RAW) I eat it a lot, I HAVE BEEN TOLD that Spinach depletes iron??? or that it makes the body unable to absorb it?? I have found that some researchers agrees while others disagree. IF however, that is
true then it could provide me with the answer I have been looking for.
Here is why:
I ate raw spinach everyday for nearly 2 months, sometimes 2 servings a day (i really love it) that was prior to ordering my Vega shakes, so perhaps I was keeping my iron down eating spinach
enough that I could handle the 100% DV in the Vega Mix. Over the last
month I have not had as much spinach, I think I ate it so much I got
just a little tired of it. I still eat it about twice a week not twice a
day. Anyway, I am very sad that all of a sudden Vega is making me so
sick (it is the only explanation that makes sense) what should I do?
Should I increase my spinach again & in a few weeks try the Vega
again? Anybody else had this problem? Anybody else have issues with high
Iron? Why do some have higher Iron?
Do you think that there is another explanation? Any answers/suggestions- Thanks!!
